On This Day March 7 1983 - Small & Frye Premiered on CBS
On this day March 7 1983 the short lived comedy series Small & Frye premiered on CBS. The show followed the adventures of a detective duo with a unique twist. One of them could shrink down to six inches tall. Starring Darren McGavin as Nick Small and Jack Blessing as Chip Frye the series combined crime solving with lighthearted humor and a bit of sci-fi fantasy.

Despite its creative premise Small & Frye struggled to find an audience and was canceled after just six episodes. While it never gained widespread recognition the show remains a quirky footnote in 80s television history.

80s insight: Jack Blessing who played Chip Frye later became known for his recurring roles on Moonlighting and George Lopez.
