On This Day March 7 1983 - Blue Monday by New Order Was Released
On this day March 7 1983 New Order released Blue Monday a groundbreaking single that became one of the most influential electronic dance tracks of all time. The song blended post-punk with cutting-edge synthesizers and drum machine programming creating a signature sound that helped shape electronic music for decades.

Despite being a non-album single Blue Monday became the best-selling 12-inch single of all time and played a crucial role in bringing dance music into the mainstream. Its influence extended beyond the 80s inspiring countless artists in the worlds of new wave electronic and alternative rock.

80s insight: The original Blue Monday 12-inch vinyl sleeve was designed to resemble a floppy disk but its elaborate die-cut design made it so expensive to produce that Factory Records reportedly lost money on every copy sold.
