On this day March 6 1987 the comedy-drama film Tin Men premiered in theaters. Directed by Barry Levinson the film starred Richard Dreyfuss and Danny DeVito as two rival aluminum siding salesmen in 1960s Baltimore whose feud spirals out of control. Barbara Hershey played a pivotal role as the woman caught in the middle of their bitter competition.

Tin Men was praised for its sharp writing witty dialogue and strong performances capturing the cutthroat world of door-to-door sales with humor and depth. The film was a box office success earning 25.4 million against its 11 million budget and remains a standout in Levinson’s series of Baltimore-based films.

Fun fact: Tin Men was the second installment in Barry Levinson’s Baltimore film series following Diner and preceding Avalon and Liberty Heights.
