On This Day: March 6 1981 All Night Long Premiered in Theaters
On this day March 6 1981 the comedy film All Night Long premiered in theaters. Directed by Jean-Claude Tramont the movie starred Gene Hackman as a man dealing with a midlife crisis who takes a night manager job at a convenience store leading to a series of comedic and unexpected encounters. Barbra Streisand played his free-spirited mistress adding to the film’s quirky dynamic.

Despite featuring a strong cast including Diane Ladd Dennis Quaid Kevin Dobson and William Daniels the film struggled to find an audience. Made on a budget of 15 million All Night Long only managed to earn 4.4 million at the box office. Over time it has gained some recognition for its offbeat humor and unique performances.

Fun fact: Barbra Streisand took on the role last-minute as a favor to her husband producer Jon Peters replacing Lisa Eichhorn who was originally cast.
