On This Day March 5 1986 - Salvador Premiered in Theaters
On this day in 1986, Salvador premiered in theaters. Directed by Oliver Stone, the film starred James Woods, Jim Belushi, Michael Murphy, Elpidia Carrillo, John Savage, and Cynthia Gibb.

The movie follows the story of a photojournalist covering the Salvadoran Civil War in the early 1980s. Woods played the lead role of Richard Boyle, a cynical and reckless journalist who gets caught in the middle of the brutal conflict. The film dealt with themes of political corruption, violence, and the human cost of war.

Salvador had a budget of 4.5 million dollars but earned only 1.5 million dollars at the box office, making it a commercial disappointment. Despite this, the film received positive reviews for its performances, particularly from James Woods, and for Stone's intense direction. Salvador has since been regarded as an important film for its portrayal of a complex and harrowing historical conflict.

Fun fact: Oliver Stone, known for his politically charged films, based Salvador on real-life events and the experiences of photojournalists covering the war in Central America.

Trivia question: James Woods earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor for another film in the 1980s. Can you name that film?
