On This Day March 4 1988 - And God Created Women Premiered in Theaters
On this day March 4 1988 the drama And God Created Women premiered in theaters. Directed by Roger Vadim the film starred Rebecca De Mornay, Vincent Spano, Frank Langella, and Donovan Leitch.

The movie was a remake of Vadim's 1956 French film And God Created Woman, which famously starred Brigitte Bardot. Set in a small seaside town, the story centers on a passionate love triangle between a young woman, her husband, and a man she has an affair with. Rebecca De Mornay played the lead role, bringing her own interpretation to the sexually liberated and headstrong character that made Bardot a screen legend.

Despite the allure of the remake and the strong performances, the film struggled at the box office, earning only $717,000 against a budget of $5 million. It was criticized for being overly melodramatic, and while it garnered some attention for its provocative themes, it failed to resonate with a wide audience.

80s insight: The original 1956 version of And God Created Woman became a cultural phenomenon, launching Brigitte Bardot into stardom and causing a stir with its bold treatment of female sexuality.
