On This Day: March 3 1982 The Mamas and The Papas Began Their Reunion Tour
On this day March 3 1982 The Mamas and The Papas began their reunion tour bringing their signature harmonies back to the stage. The folk rock group originally rose to fame in the 1960s with timeless hits like California Dreamin and Monday Monday becoming one of the defining acts of their era.

The reunion tour featured original member John Phillips alongside newer additions as Mama Cass Elliot had tragically passed away in 1974. Despite the changes in the lineup the group continued to perform their classic songs capturing the nostalgic appeal of their music.

The tour was part of a wave of 1960s acts reuniting in the 1980s as interest in classic rock and folk rock remained strong. While the reunion did not produce new major recordings it allowed fans to experience their beloved songs live once again.

Fun fact: The Mamas and The Papas were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998 recognizing their influence on folk rock and vocal harmonies.

Trivia question: The group’s biggest hit Monday Monday won a Grammy Award in 1967. Can you name the category they won in?
