On This Day: March 29 1986 Rock Me Amadeus by Falco Became the Number 1 Song in America
On this day March 29 1986 Rock Me Amadeus by Austrian pop star Falco became the number 1 song in America. It held the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 from March 29 through April 18 and made history as the first number 1 hit in the US by a German-speaking artist.

Blending pop rock synths and a catchy tribute to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart the track took the world by storm with its unique mix of German and English lyrics. Rock Me Amadeus also reached number 1 in Germany, Spain, Austria, Ireland, Sweden, New Zealand and South Africa and became a defining song of the mid 80s.

Fun fact: The song was inspired by the 1984 film Amadeus and originally had multiple remix versions including one specifically for the American market with added English narration.

Trivia question: What country was Falco from?
