On This Day: March 27 1986 Holy Money by Swans Was Released
On this day March 27 1986 Swans released their fourth studio album Holy Money. Known for their intense sound and confrontational themes the band continued to push sonic boundaries with a mix of industrial noise rock and dark experimental textures.

Holy Money built on the heavy and aggressive foundation of their earlier albums while introducing more structured rhythms and haunting repetition. The album featured brooding vocals from frontman Michael Gira and contributions from Jarboe whose presence would grow in later releases. While not a commercial hit the album became a cult favorite and a key moment in Swans’ evolution as one of the most influential bands in the underground music scene.

Fun fact: Holy Money was recorded during the same sessions as their previous release Greed and shares similar themes and artwork giving both albums a connected feel.

Trivia question: What two Swans albums released in 1986 were recorded during the same sessions and are often considered companion records?
