On this day March 26 1986 Madonna released her haunting ballad Live to Tell. A dramatic shift from her earlier upbeat hits the song showcased a more serious and emotional side of her artistry.

Live to Tell would go on to become the number 1 song in America from June 7 to June 13 and also topped the charts in Canada Italy and Greece. The track was featured in the film At Close Range starring Sean Penn and added a deeper cinematic feel to Madonna’s growing catalog. The song’s powerful vocals moody production and introspective lyrics marked a turning point in her career proving she could deliver more than dance floor anthems.
