On this day March 26 1981 Quincy Jones released his landmark album The Dude. Packed with smooth production slick arrangements and an all star lineup of vocal talent the album showcased Quincy’s unmatched ability to blend jazz funk pop and R&B into something entirely his own.

The Dude reached number 9 on the US Billboard charts and hit number 1 on the R&B chart. It featured the breakout ballad Just Once with vocals by James Ingram which became a major hit and introduced Ingram to a wide audience. The album also included performances by Michael Jackson Patti Austin and Stevie Wonder. The Dude was nominated for Album of the Year at the Grammy Awards and helped solidify Quincy Jones as one of the most influential producers of the era.
