On this day March 24 1989 Troop Beverly Hills premiered in theaters. Directed by Jeff Kanew the comedy starred Shelley Long as Phyllis Nefler a glamorous Beverly Hills socialite who unexpectedly becomes the leader of her daughter’s Wilderness Girls troop. Craig T. Nelson played her estranged husband while the cast also featured a group of rising young stars including Tori Spelling Carla Gugino Emily Schulman Ami Foster and Kellie Martin.

The film followed Phyllis as she guided her troop through challenges with her unique flair and style eventually proving that even a troop in designer khaki could earn their badges. Fun fact: Carla Gugino who played Chica in the film went on to have a major acting career starring in projects like Spy Kids Sin City and The Haunting of Hill House.
