On This Day: March 24 1989 Dead Bang Premiered in Theaters
On this day March 24 1989 Dead Bang premiered in theaters. Directed by John Frankenheimer the crime thriller starred Don Johnson as a tough and unorthodox LAPD detective on the trail of a dangerous white supremacist group. The film also featured Penelope Ann Miller William Forsythe Bob Balaban and Tim Reid.

Dead Bang mixed gritty action with a character-driven story as Johnson’s character unraveled a deeper conspiracy while battling his own personal struggles. With a strong lead performance and sharp direction the film aimed to bring a darker edge to late 80s cop dramas.

It was made on a budget of $14.8 million but only brought in $8.1 million at the box office. Over time it gained recognition as a hidden gem among fans of the genre.

Fun fact: Don Johnson filmed Dead Bang during a break from Miami Vice and many critics noted the contrast between his role in the film and his TV persona as Sonny Crockett.

Trivia question: What year did Miami Vice premiere on television?
