The supernatural horror film marked the directorial debut of Robert Englund best known for playing Freddy Krueger in the Nightmare on Elm Street series. The story centered around a mysterious phone service that grants callers supernatural powers at a deadly cost. As a bullied teen begins using the line he slowly transforms into something sinister. With its eerie tone and dark themes the film tapped into late 80s horror vibes and gained a cult following despite a modest box office take of $2.9 million.
