On This Day: March 24 1986 Please by Pet Shop Boys Was Released
On this day March 24 1986 Pet Shop Boys released their debut album Please. The synth pop duo made a huge impression with their sleek electronic sound and cool detached style. Please introduced the world to their signature blend of dance beats and sharp lyrics. The album reached number 7 on the US Billboard charts and sold over 3 million copies worldwide. It featured the smash hit West End Girls which became a number one single in both the US and UK. Other tracks like Opportunities and Suburbia helped solidify the group as major players in the 80s music scene.

Fun fact: The album’s title Please was meant to be polite and understated. The band joked that fans would walk into a record store and ask Can I have the Pet Shop Boys album Please.

Trivia question: What year did West End Girls first reach number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart?
