On This Day: March 22 1985 Friday the 13th A New Beginning Premiered in Theaters
On this day March 22 1985 Friday the 13th A New Beginning premiered in theaters. Directed by Danny Steinman the fifth installment in the iconic horror franchise starred Melanie Kinnaman John Shepard and Shavar Ross with Tom Morga portraying Jason Voorhees.

Following the events of The Final Chapter this sequel introduced a new storyline centered around Tommy Jarvis now struggling with his traumatic past. Unlike previous films A New Beginning took a different approach with a mystery element revealing that the killer wasn’t actually Jason Voorhees but an imposter. Despite mixed reactions from fans the film was a financial success grossing 22 million on a 2.2 million budget.

Fun fact: This was the first Friday the 13th film in which Jason Voorhees was not the actual killer leading to divided opinions among longtime fans.
