On This Day: March 21 1980 Forbidden Zone Premiered in Theaters
On this day March 21 1980 the cult surrealist film Forbidden Zone premiered. Directed by Richard Elfman the film starred Hervé Villechaize Susan Tyrrell Marie-Pascale Elfman and Danny Elfman in a bizarre musical fantasy that defied conventional storytelling.

The film followed a family’s journey into the Sixth Dimension a strange underworld ruled by King Fausto played by Villechaize. Featuring absurd humor unique animation and a soundtrack composed by Danny Elfman and performed by his band Oingo Boingo Forbidden Zone developed a devoted cult following over the years despite its initial obscurity.

Fun fact: Danny Elfman who composed the score later became one of Hollywood’s most famous film composers creating iconic scores for Batman The Nightmare Before Christmas and The Simpsons theme.
