On This Day: March 20 1981 Praying Mantis Released Their Debut Album Time Tells No Lies
On this day March 20 1981 British heavy metal band Praying Mantis released their debut album Time Tells No Lies. The album was part of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) movement and reached number 16 on the UK charts.

Featuring melodic yet powerful tracks like Cheated and Panic in the Streets the album showcased the band’s mix of hard rock and heavy metal with strong harmonies and intricate guitar work. While not as commercially successful as some of their NWOBHM peers the album has since gained a cult following among metal fans.

Fun fact: Praying Mantis was one of the few bands from the NWOBHM movement that leaned heavily into melodic rock influences setting them apart from heavier acts like Iron Maiden and Saxon.

Trivia question: What famous British metal band did Praying Mantis tour with in the early 80s?
