On This Day: March 20 1981 Amy Premiered in Theaters
On this day March 20 1981 the family drama film Amy premiered in theaters. Directed by Vincent McEveety the film starred Jenny Agutter Barry Newman Kathleen Nolan and Chris Robinson in a heartfelt story about perseverance and compassion.

Amy followed the journey of a woman who leaves her privileged life to teach deaf and mute children how to speak and communicate. The film was produced by Walt Disney Productions and was praised for its inspiring message and emotional depth. Though not a major box office success it remains a lesser-known but meaningful entry in Disney’s live-action films of the 80s.

Fun fact: Amy was one of the earliest Disney films to focus on disability representation showcasing sign language and speech therapy as key elements of the story.

Trivia question: Jenny Agutter later appeared in which 1987 science-fiction film that starred Dolph Lundgren?
