On This Day: March 2 1987 Boi-ngo by Oingo Boingo Was Released
On this day March 2 1987 Oingo Boingo released their sixth studio album Boi ngo. The album showcased the band’s unique mix of new wave ska and rock blending Danny Elfman’s theatrical vocals with energetic and complex instrumentation.

Boi ngo reached number 77 on the Billboard 200 charts and featured one of the band’s most recognizable songs Dead Man’s Party. The song gained widespread attention after being featured in the 1986 comedy film Back to School starring Rodney Dangerfield. Other standout tracks from the album included Just Another Day and We Close Our Eyes which further cemented Oingo Boingo’s cult status in the alternative music scene.

While Boi ngo did not achieve massive commercial success it remains a fan favorite and an essential part of the band’s catalog. Oingo Boingo continued to build their dedicated following throughout the late 1980s before eventually disbanding in 1995 with Danny Elfman transitioning into a successful career as a film composer.

Fun fact: Danny Elfman went on to compose some of the most iconic movie scores including the theme for The Simpsons and soundtracks for Tim Burton films like Batman and The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Trivia question: Oingo Boingo’s song Weird Science was written for a 1985 film of the same name. Can you name the actor who played the character Gary Wallace in the movie?
