On this day March 19 1982 the mystery thriller Deathtrap premiered in theaters. Directed by Sidney Lumet the film starred Michael Caine Dyan Cannon and Christopher Reeve in a suspenseful story filled with twists and dark humor.

Based on the hit Broadway play Deathtrap followed a once-successful playwright who hatches a devious plan to steal a script from a promising young writer. As the plot unfolds betrayal deception and murder take center stage creating a gripping psychological thriller. The film was well received and earned 19.2 million at the box office.

Fun fact: Christopher Reeve who was best known as Superman took on a much darker role in Deathtrap showcasing his range as an actor.
