On this day March 18 1988 the animated film Pound Puppies and the Legend of Big Paw premiered in theaters. Directed by Pierre DeCelles the film featured voice talents including Brennan Howard B J Ward and Tony Longo bringing the lovable puppies to life.

Based on the popular toy line and animated TV series the film followed a group of adorable puppies on a mission to find loving homes while outsmarting villains who wanted to capture them. Despite its connection to the beloved franchise the film struggled at the box office earning only 586,000.

Fun fact: The Pound Puppies franchise was originally created as a line of plush toys by Tonka in 1984 before being adapted into an animated series and later this theatrical film.
