On this day March 18 1985 the sitcom Safe at Home premiered on WTBS. The series ran for three seasons with a total of 96 episodes bringing lighthearted family comedy to audiences.

Though not as widely remembered as other 80s sitcoms Safe at Home developed a loyal fanbase with its blend of humor and relatable family dynamics. As one of WTBS’s original productions it helped establish the network’s push into original programming during the decade.

Fun fact: Safe at Home was one of the early sitcoms produced specifically for cable television as WTBS sought to expand beyond reruns and syndicated content.
