On this day March 16 1984 The Style Council released their debut album Cafe Bleu. The album blended elements of jazz soul and pop marking a major shift from frontman Paul Weller’s previous work with The Jam.

Cafe Bleu was critically acclaimed for its sophisticated sound and diverse musical influences featuring tracks like My Ever Changing Moods and You’re the Best Thing. Over time it became one of the most celebrated albums of the 80s earning a place in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.

Fun fact: In the US the album was released under the title My Ever Changing Moods to match the success of the song on American charts.
