On This Day: March 11 1983 Trenchcoat Premiered in Theaters
On this day March 11 1983 the comedy-mystery film Trenchcoat premiered in theaters. Directed by Michael Turner the movie starred Margot Kidder and Robert Hays in a lighthearted adventure filled with espionage mistaken identities and international intrigue.

The film followed an aspiring mystery writer who gets caught up in a real-life spy plot while on vacation in Malta. Despite its mix of comedy and suspense Trenchcoat struggled at the box office earning only 4.3 million. Over time it gained recognition as a fun but overlooked 80s adventure film.

Fun fact: Trenchcoat was one of the first live-action films produced under Disney’s Touchstone Pictures label which was created to handle more mature films outside of the traditional Disney brand.

Trivia question: What was the first movie ever released under Disney’s Touchstone Pictures label?
