On This Day July 25 1980 – AC/DC Released Their 7th Album Back in Black
On this day July 25 1980, AC/ DC released their seventh studio album Back in Black, a powerful comeback that would go on to become one of the most successful albums in music history. The record marked the debut of new lead singer Brian Johnson following the death of original frontman Bon Scott earlier that year.

Back in Black was both a tribute and a statement. From the explosive opening riff of Hells Bells to the thunderous title track and the infectious You Shook Me All Night Long, the album never let up. It struck the perfect balance of raw energy, hard rock attitude, and commercial appeal. Produced by Mutt Lange, the album’s crisp sound helped bring the band to a wider audience without compromising their edge.

The impact was immediate and massive. Back in Black climbed to number four on the US Billboard 200 and reached number one in multiple countries. Over time, it sold more than 50 million copies worldwide, making it the best selling rock album ever and the second best selling album of all time globally.

80s insight: Back in Black proved that hard rock could dominate the charts and defined the sound of 80s rock radio for years to come.
