On This Day: February 26 1982 Evilspeak Was Released in the US
On this day February 26 1982 the horror film Evilspeak was released in the US bringing a unique mix of satanic horror and early computer technology to the big screen. Directed by Eric Weston the film starred Clint Howard in one of his most memorable roles alongside R. G. Armstrong Joseph Cortese and Claude Earl Jones.

Evilspeak followed the story of Stanley Coopersmith, a bullied military academy student who discovers an ancient Satanic text on a computer. Using technology to summon dark forces he unleashes brutal revenge on those who tormented him. The film combined supernatural horror with early 80s computer imagery giving it a distinct place among the Satanic panic era horror movies.

Despite its low budget of one million dollars, Evilspeak developed a cult following due to its gruesome special effects and over-the-top climax. However, it also faced controversy and was labeled a video nasty in the UK, leading to censorship issues. Over time, the film gained appreciation from horror fans for its unique concept and Clint Howard’s unhinged performance.

Fun fact: Evilspeak was one of the first horror movies to incorporate computer technology into a demonic possession story, making it an early example of tech-based horror.

Trivia question: Clint Howard is known for his many cult film appearances, but his brother is a famous Hollywood director. Can you name Clint Howard’s well-known director sibling?
