On This Day: February 24 1984 Wings of Tomorrow by Europe Was Released
On this day February 24 1984 Europe released their second studio album Wings of Tomorrow. The album played a crucial role in shaping the band’s sound as they transitioned from their early hard rock roots to the more polished melodic style that would later bring them worldwide success.

Wings of Tomorrow featured powerful guitar work from John Norum and showcased Joey Tempest’s growing strength as a songwriter. The album included standout tracks like Stormwind Open Your Heart and the fan favorite Scream of Anger. It reached number 20 on the Swedish charts helping Europe gain momentum in their home country before breaking into international fame with The Final Countdown two years later.

This album also caught the attention of major record labels leading to Europe signing with Epic Records which propelled them to global recognition. While Wings of Tomorrow did not achieve massive commercial success outside Sweden it remains an essential album in the band’s discography and a favorite among classic rock fans.

Fun fact: The song Open Your Heart was re recorded for Europe’s 1988 album Out of This World giving it a more radio friendly production that helped introduce it to a wider audience.

Trivia question: Before finding worldwide fame with The Final Countdown Europe won a Swedish talent competition that helped launch their career. Can you name the contest they won?
