On This Day: April 9, 1988 - Final Episode of High Mountain Rangers Aired
On this day April 9, 1988, the final episode of High Mountain Rangers aired, ending its run after just one season and 12 episodes. The action drama focused on an elite search and rescue team operating in the rugged wilderness of Lake Tahoe. With breathtaking mountain scenery and plenty of outdoor adventure, the show brought something a little different to the TV landscape of the late 80s.

High Mountain Rangers starred Robert Conrad as Jesse Hawkes, a former Marine leading the specialized unit. The show also featured his real life sons, Christian and Shane Conrad, making it a true family project both on and off screen. Episodes followed the team as they tracked criminals, rescued hikers, and took on dangerous missions in the high country. Even though the series didn’t last beyond its first season, it developed a small following and was later continued in a short lived spin off called Jesse Hawkes.

Fun fact: High Mountain Rangers was filmed on location in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, giving the show an authentic and cinematic outdoor look.

Trivia question: What actor led the High Mountain Rangers and also appeared in the show with his two real life sons?
