On This Day: April 30, 1982 - A Flock of Seagulls Releases Their Debut Album
On April 30, 1982, A Flock of Seagulls released their self-titled debut album. Known for its blend of new wave, synthpop, and post-punk influences, the album helped define the early 80s sound and style with its futuristic themes and atmospheric production.

The standout hit I Ran (So Far Away) became an international success and was a major reason the album reached number 10 on the US Billboard charts. The song’s iconic music video featuring wild hairstyles and sci-fi imagery became a staple of early MTV and helped cement the band’s place in 80s pop culture history.

Fun fact: Despite their strong success in America, I Ran barely made a splash on the UK charts when it was first released.
