On This Day: April 28, 1989 - Loverboy Hits Theaters
On April 28, 1989, the romantic comedy Loverboy starring Patrick Dempsey was released in theaters. Directed by Joan Micklin Silver, this film followed the story of a college student who takes a job delivering pizza and gets a little more than he bargains for when rich women start requesting special deliveries.

The movie featured a fun cast with big names like Kate Jackson, Carrie Fisher, and Kirstie Alley. Despite its charm and star power, Loverboy struggled at the box office. It had a budget of around 8.5 million dollars but only brought in about 3.9 million dollars during its theatrical run. Over time it found a second life through cable TV and home video where it earned a loyal fanbase.

Fun fact: Patrick Dempsey later became known as McDreamy on Grey's Anatomy but in the 80s he was all about playing the lovable awkward guy.
