On This Day: April 27 1981 - The Fall Released Slates
On this day April 27 1981, post punk band The Fall released their EP titled Slates. Although it only contained six tracks, Slates made a big impact with critics and fans and is often cited as one of the band’s most important early releases.

The Fall blended sharp lyrics, raw production, and experimental sounds into a style that would influence generations of alternative bands. Led by the unmistakable voice and writing of Mark E. Smith, Slates captured the chaotic and restless energy of the UK post punk scene at the time.

Even though it was an EP and not a full album, it charted on the UK Independent Charts and remains a fan favorite for its fearless creativity.

Fun fact: Despite being only six songs long, Slates was too long to qualify as a single and too short to be an album, which confused the official charts and kept it out of the main UK rankings.
