On This Day: April 26, 1988 - Frank Zappa Released Guitar
On this day April 26 1988, Frank Zappa released his live double album Guitar. The album followed in the footsteps of his earlier release Shut Up n Play Yer Guitar and focused entirely on live guitar solos recorded between 1979 and 1984.

Guitar contained no traditional songs or lyrics. It was a collection of improvisational solos pulled from concerts around the world and edited together into a seamless flow of complex guitar work. The album showed Zappa’s creativity and technical skill as he moved freely between rock jazz and experimental sounds. While it did not top the charts it became a favorite among musicians and fans of instrumental music for its originality and fearless approach.

Fun fact: Many of the song titles were inspired by current events and pop culture including names like Republicans and Jim and Tammys Upper Room.
