On This Day: April 26, 1988 - Colors Soundtrack Was Released
On this day April 26, 1988, the soundtrack for the film Colors was released. Featuring a lineup of hip hop, R&B, and funk artists, the album captured the gritty and intense atmosphere of the movie, which focused on gang culture in Los Angeles.

The soundtrack reached number 70 on the Billboard 200 and included tracks from artists like Ice-T, Salt-N-Pepa, Roxanne Shanté, Big Daddy Kane, and Rick James. It was one of the first major film soundtracks to spotlight the emerging influence of West Coast hip hop in mainstream entertainment.

Colors gave audiences not just a dramatic film, but a hard hitting musical snapshot of urban street life at the tail end of the 80s.

Fun fact: The title track Colors by Ice-T became an anthem of West Coast rap and helped launch his career into the national spotlight.
