On This Day: April 26, 1985 - Stick Premiered in Theaters
On this day April 26, 1985, the action thriller Stick premiered in theaters. Directed by and starring Burt Reynolds, the film was based on the novel by Elmore Leonard and featured a strong supporting cast including George Segal, Candice Bergen, and Charles Durning.

Reynolds played a recently released ex con who gets caught up in a dangerous underworld of crime, double crosses, and revenge after trying to go straight. Despite the big budget and the popularity of both Reynolds and the source material, the movie struggled at the box office, earning just 8.4 million on a 22 million dollar budget.

Stick was known for its gritty tone but was also marked by creative differences behind the scenes, including major changes from the original cut during studio edits.

Fun fact: Elmore Leonard, who wrote the novel, was critical of the final version of the film, particularly how it strayed from his original story and tone.
