On This Day: April 20, 1981 - Girlschool Released Hit and Run
On this day April 20, 1981, British heavy metal band Girlschool released their second studio album Hit and Run. Known for their raw energy and gritty sound, the all female group was part of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal and often toured alongside Motörhead.

Hit and Run became their most successful release, hitting number 5 on the UK Albums Chart and reaching number 182 on the US Billboard 200. The album featured standout tracks like C’mon Let’s Go, Watch Your Step, and the title track Hit and Run. It blended punk attitude with classic metal riffs and proved that Girlschool could hold their own in a male dominated scene. Their tight playing and aggressive style earned them international respect and helped lay the groundwork for future generations of women in rock and metal.

Fun fact: The album was produced by Vic Maile, who also worked with Motörhead and helped capture the band's live power in the studio.

Trivia question: What 1981 album by Girlschool reached number 5 in the UK and featured the high energy title track Hit and Run?
