On This Day: April 18, 1988 - Timbuk3 Released Eden Alley
On this day April 18, 1988, alternative duo Timbuk3 released their second studio album Eden Alley. Following the success of their breakout hit The Future's So Bright I Gotta Wear Shades, this album showed a more serious and introspective side of their songwriting.

Eden Alley reached number 107 on the US Billboard 200 and included tracks like Rev Jack and Easy that blended social commentary with quirky pop and folk influenced sounds. The band stayed true to their stripped down approach, using drum machines, layered guitars, and sharp lyrics to explore everything from religion to politics to the loneliness of modern life. Though it didn’t match the commercial success of their debut, Eden Alley earned critical respect for its depth and originality.

Fun fact: Timbuk3’s music was mostly created by husband and wife duo Pat and Barbara K MacDonald, who recorded and toured as a two piece using loops and minimal gear.

Trivia question: What 1988 album by Timbuk3 followed their hit debut and reached number 107 on the Billboard chart?
