On This Day: April 16, 1982 - Status Quo Released 1982
On this day April 16, 1982, British rock band Status Quo released their fifteenth studio album titled 1982. Also stylized as 1 plus 9 plus 8 plus 2, the album hit number 1 on the UK Albums Chart, continuing the band’s run of success into the new decade.

1982 featured the classic boogie rock sound that fans had come to expect, with a mix of upbeat rockers and radio friendly hooks. Tracks like Dear John and She Don’t Fool Me stood out and received strong airplay in the UK. The album also marked the twentieth anniversary of the band’s formation and was celebrated with a royal performance for Prince Charles.

The lineup on this album included core members Francis Rossi, Rick Parfitt, Alan Lancaster, and drummer Pete Kircher, who had just joined the band.

Fun fact: Status Quo performed at the Prince’s Trust charity concert in 1982 shortly after the album’s release, which helped boost the album’s visibility across the UK.

Trivia question: What 1982 album by Status Quo reached number 1 in the UK and was released to mark the band’s twentieth anniversary?
