On This Day: April 16, 1981 - Final Episode of Buck Rogers in the 25th Century Aired
On this day April 16, 1981, the final episode of Buck Rogers in the 25th Century aired, bringing the sci fi adventure series to a close after two seasons and 37 episodes. Starring Gil Gerard as Captain William Buck Rogers, the show followed a 20th century astronaut who awakens 500 years in the future to find Earth recovering from a nuclear war.

The series was known for its futuristic style, space battles, and campy charm. Alongside Buck were fan favorites like the robot Twiki and Colonel Wilma Deering, played by Erin Gray. While the first season focused on action packed missions and flashy tech, the second season shifted toward deeper space exploration and philosophical themes.

Though short lived, Buck Rogers left a lasting mark on 80s sci fi television and became a cult favorite with fans who loved its blend of retro fun and intergalactic adventure.

Fun fact: Twiki’s voice was originally provided by Mel Blanc, the same voice actor behind Bugs Bunny and many Looney Tunes characters.

Trivia question: What sci fi series ended on April 15, 1981, after two seasons and featured a 20th century astronaut waking up in the future?
