Butterfly Premiered in Theaters in 1982
In February 1982, the controversial drama Butterfly premiered in theaters. Directed by Matt Cimber, the film starred Stacy Keach, Pia Zadora, Lois Nettleton, Ed McMahon, James Franciscus, Edward Albert, and Orson Welles.

Butterfly was loosely based on the 1947 novel by James M. Cain and followed the story of a Nevada miner (Stacy Keach) whose life is turned upside down when his estranged daughter (Pia Zadora) returns, leading to a scandalous courtroom drama. The film was widely criticized upon release, particularly for its themes and performances, but it gained infamy when Pia Zadora won a Golden Globe for Best New Star despite the film's negative reception.

Fun fact: Pia Zadora’s Golden Globe win sparked controversy, with many believing it was the result of her wealthy husband, Meshulam Riklis, allegedly influencing voters.
